In the flotation process of flotation machine, the phenomenon that the mineral particles adhere to the bubbles is known as bubble mineralization. The bubble mineralization is the basic behavior of the flotation process, which makes the useful minerals and unwanted minerals achieve a final separation. Mineralization of bubbles has a certain selectivity, i.e. the minerals with hydrophobicity preferentially adhere to the air bubbles. The stronger the hydrophobicity is, the more easily it will be to adhere to the bubbles. Mineralization of bubbles is not only concerned with the surface nature of the ore particles, but also is related with the size of the bubble and the flowing state of the pulp in the tank of flotation separator. In the process of the bubble mineralization, due to the difference of the surface nature of the minerals and size of the particles, the rising difficulty of the mineralized bubbles is also different. From the perspective of the time, it can be showed in the difference of rising speed of the bubbles. In order to show the final results of the bubble mineralization and speed of the flotation process, the indicator of the flotation rate is introduced. The speed of the flotation process can be measured by the change of the concentration of floating minerals or recovery rate in the unit time, which is called flotation velocity.
The so-called flotation velocity refers to the recovery rate achieved by a kind of ores in a unit time in the flotation machine under certain operating conditions. If using v to represent the flotation velocity, ? represents a recovery, t represents the flotation time, and then it’s mathematical formula is V = ? / t. Therefore, improving the flotation rate is to increase the recovery rate and shorten the flotation time. Improving the flotationvelocity is the important problem of the flotation machine manufacturers.
