The word ‘solar panel’ is not unknown by many of us, but what is mean exactly?
The simplest way to describe solar panels are platforms which generate solar rays into electricity. They are a source of active solar power and they make use of the sun’s energy. Solar panels harvest sunlight and transforms it into energy or electricity trough photovoltaic cells. The amount of electricity generated depends and the amount of hours daylight the solar panels receive.
In a way solar panels recycles energy from one form to another and that is why it is often referred to as Green Energy or Groene energie.
what is the mechanism behind solar panels?
Solar panels do not transform solar energy into electricity out of thin air, a whole science is preceded for this. Most panels work with solar cells and those cells are manufactured from crystalline silicon or gallium arsenide. These materials are especially designed for photovoltaic cells. Even though the solar cells are about the same seize of a fingernail, they can produce a fait amount of energy, especially when they are used combined over different panels across your entire roof.
The scientific name for a solar cell is photovoltaic cell, ‘photo’ because it reflects the sunlight and ‘volt’ because it generates electricity.
The solar cells are divided in two different layers, those layers are intended as guiders to empower energy. The first layer is called the N-side, the second one is called the P-side. The N-size rejects the electrodes and the P-side attracts them. Those two layers are essential because it transforms he sunlight into voltage. In short, the atoms are split up and the electrodes rise and become voltage electricity. The electricity is afterwards transported through wires and are put into use through the house and appliances.

Even though ever solar panels works according to the same principle, there are 3 different types of solar panels on the market.
The thin solar panels
The crystalline silicon panels
The newest kind of solar panels which are still in progress.
Each type of solar panels has its unique characteristics and advantages. The thin panels are easy to place and produce an equal amount of energy in comparison with the crystalline panels. Unfortunately, thin solar panels are very expensive.
If you want your panels to function properly you will have to place them facing south and in an angle of about 35 degrees. That way you can catch the most radiance. The sunniest place of your house is often referred to as  your ‘solar central’ and is the best spot to place your solar panels.
Solar panels or zonnepanelen are very easy to maintain and they can last up to 30 years. When you live in an open space, like most urban areas, you do not have to worry at all about your solar panels because the rain will clear all the dirt from your panels. Only when you live in a area with a lot of trees around, you should check your solar panels about twice a year.
