For the first time ever, Radio, TV and Cable stations across Wisconsin will participate in the statewide tornado drill. And for the first time, NOAA Weather Radios will be tested during the drill. This week is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.

The swirling gas was discovered by NASA’s?Solar Dynamic Observatory satellite in September 2011. News of the tornado’s existence was presented to the?National Astronomy Meeting 2012 today in England. Clocking in at 186,000 miles per hour, the speeds of this tornado absolutely dwarf those of a storm on Earth. Terrestrial storms don’t exactly get as hot as this tornado either: The solar storm’s temperature ranges between 90,000 and 3.6 million degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep basic disaster supplies in the house and some in the shelter. These need to be practical things like a self powered radio, flash lights, water, food, blankets, and other items that you might need. If you do keep some of these in the shelter, keep them in plastic to prevent moisture from getting to them.

Commercial tornado shelters must be adequately anchored to the ground, to avoid uplifting and overturning. The walls and doors must be secure and should resist storming of flying debris and airborne objects. To make the environment as comfortable as possible, lighting, fans and benches are installed. LED powered lamps, ceiling fans are common features of Commercial Shelters. Also, portions of exterior main building walls that are used as walls for the safe room must be separated from the structure of the main building. This is done to avoid damage to the storm shelter, which might be caused if the main building collapses.

The larger?Lifesaver storm shelters?(LS-8 and above) require a heavier-duty anchoring system which is why we use an 8-inch thick concrete pad underneath the shelter (or pre-formed 2000-3000 lb concrete blocks) with straps or chains as their buoyancy factor is greater. ?That concrete would be overkill and unnecessary for the smaller LS-4 and LS-6?Lifesaver storm shelters?however and would also?unnecessarily?increase the end cost for the customer.

The best way to handle a tornado is to have a sufficient level of tornado preparedness. You should continually watch for any tornado watches or warnings on the news and know what to look out for to predict if a tornado will hit. If you start to see green or orange clouds and hear a loud roar in the clouds, get ready for a tornado warning to pop up on the television and move to the shelter.

We have tornado storm shelters and safe rooms to accommodate every size, need and budget, from our 4-person storm shelter starting as low as $3500 on up to our 20-person shelter (great for businesses too like day care centers, factories, office buildings, small businesses, mobile homes & parks, retirement homes, RV parks and campsites, churches, US Gov’t & Military Facilities, Local & City Gov’t Facilities, and more).

With these, you know that you are going to be safe even in the most severe type of storms. Mobile homes give little to no protection during a severe storm.
